Standards and Policies

On this page, you will find the foundational documents for CAAHEP accreditation.  The 2022 Standards and Guidelines, including Appendix B with the MAERB Core Curriculum, are the current Standards and Guidelines, and you will note that there is an implementation schedule to guide your activities.  The 2015 Standards and Guidelines will remain posted on the MAERB website for a period of time, as programs that are undergoing their comprehensive review in 2022 and 2023 will be visited under those Standards.

The Educational Competencies for Medical Assistants (ECMA) is a supplementary document for the MAERB Core Curriculum, so it is included in this section. It is important to remember that the ECMA provides you with pedagogical options for your students to achieve the required competencies. As a Program Director, you make your own decisions about the activities that your students complete  to achieve the competencies. The ECMA provides you with suggestions and options for refining your evaluation tools. You are not limited by the ECMA but may develop your own assessment tools or use those found in textbooks.
